When I was in High School in the late 1970's, it was a rite of passage for many of my friends to take an epic trip across country from New York to California. Before cell phones there was only the public pay phone. If you didn't have money you could call collect... and let your folks know you were ok. This is a song about discovery, coming of age and running away. In the face of the hard winter of 2022 with the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, this tune kept nudging me to sing it. I hope it provides a few minutes of peace and wonder for you. Thanks for watching/listening! - Mark
