about

There was an earlier version of this song which was NOT positive.

Luckily for me I was able to make progress towards my own personal empowerment and healing.

Like many of the songs from this time in my life it is heavily influenced by ideas from the books of Carlos Castaneda.

You will also find the concept of being “unattached and at ease” in several of my other songs.

Ultimately for anyone on a “spiritual path,” clearing the internal clutter and ceaseless “monkey mind” chatter is one of the ultimate goals of present moment awareness. Not because it’s “nice” or “holy” or “good” but because it frees us from wasting our life force on crap.

It allows us to see the world more clearly and to get out of our own way…

Thirsty For The Sky (version 2)

Song #310 | September 2000 | CD: Thirsty For The Sky

I’ve been dreaming of birds and leaves, clouds of dust and dandelion seeds
And other things that spend their time in the sky
I’ve been working on healing the hurt, digging myself up out of the dirt
Mending these broken wings so I can take flight

Refrain:

And I feel so dangerous and I feel so alive
I get so receptive to the heavens, so thirsty for the sky
I feel like a Peregrine Falcon, untamed and unbound
It’s been a long time since I’ve had my heart on the ground

Sometimes when I am talking, I think I’m brilliant, I think I am stalking
Some great truth but then I realize the weakness of words…
Though I may be just a candle flame in a universe too huge to explain
That doesn’t mean I can’t speak my intent and be heard!

Refrain:

I release myself from the chains of fear, climb up into the atmosphere
Learn to quiet my thoughts so that I can see
I give myself to the calling wind out to where the horizon bends
Unattached and at ease I set myself free

Refrain:

about

Mark Shepard Albany, New York

Welcome to my “Life In Song” project.

Since 1976, I’ve been obsessively and compulsively writing songs. Some of them are inspired by my own life, my attempts to understand love, life, spirituality, peace and justice.

While I recently have started to get a little recognition, you’ve probably never heard my songs ANYWHERE.

But now you can hear them... here... Download. Share. Thanks!
